Our quiet adventure began at Cold Springs Harbour Marina, located in Liverpool, New York on September 26th, 1999.  Along with the other soon to be captains, we were given an orientation of the canal boats, our home away from home for the next week.  Peter Wiles and Sarah Wiles of Mid-Lakes Navigation Co. Ltd. accompanied our crew of three on the first leg of our adventure to Lock 24 in Baldwinsville, NY.  Along the way we passed The City of Syracuse, one of Mid-Lakes Navigation Co.'s dinner cruise boats.  Peter gave our producer, Wendy Fetridge pointers on piloting, while she pointed out the varied wildlife along the banks of the Seneca River (part of the Erie Canal System).  The Great Blue Herrons were more than willing to pose for our cameras.
