In this story by Jane Yolen &
Leslie Baker the importance of patience is stressed. With patience
wonderful, magical things can occur. Some things cannot be rushed,
the birth of a child or the hatching of a nest of goslings. "Honkers"
is about the wonders that can be achieved through patience and how changes
occur with the passing of time. The little girl in the story is sent
to stay with her grandparents while awaiting the birth of her mom's baby,
while their she has to be patient awaiting the hatching of the honkers.
Time passes quickly and the honkers are ready to be on their own, and it
also is time for the little girl to return to her parents and meet her
new baby sibling. This story is beautifully told and illustrated,
making it a wonderful addition to a child's library. It would also
make a wonderful gift to a parent expecting their second child.
